As a student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the early 1960’s,
Russ Gillespie had an interest in fast cars and “Rock & Roll”, like many
others.  However, Gillespie took his interest in the local rock scene another step
further by discovering a need to assist local rock bands in obtaining bookings.

Not only was this jump into the wonderful world of “Rock & Roll” exciting,
it also provided additional income for the young college student.  By
the mid-1960’s – Gillespie Enterprises had turned into a full time booking agency.
Russ  made the jump into the “Big Leagues” by booking the Midwest’s
finest show band, The Fabulous Flippers, into a number of performances in
the Lincoln area.  Their sold out shows at Lincoln’s Pershing Auditorium
are still talked about today.
